Yes, it's a huge undertaking, yes, it's huge mess, yes, it seems like it might never be finished, but, by doing it ourselves it's also saving us a huge $12,000.! So we think it's worth it. Pictures of the new roof to follow this weekend.
We've been burning the cedar shakes daily. The pile is slowly diminishing, (it's less than half of this now) thanks to the help of our adopted Dad and Grandpa, our Awesome Next Door Neighbor, and MDH and me filling in the gaps. I think it's quite funny that we've burned our old roof! Cleaning up the dirt being tracked into the house was quite the job, but even it is under control now. I'm so glad I ripped out the old carpet and painted the floor in the family room! It has saved my sanity!

Yes, it's WAS nuts! But, we saved $12,000 doing it ourselves, so we're thinking it was probably worth it. ;o)
And the floor?! Egads, if I had known the padding was glued down I wouldn't have done it! BUt I found out th ehard way- rip the carpet, try to rip the pad and then go, "uh... crud!"
